Boone County MoDOT crews were out in full force repairing potholes.

Crew members said the recent winter storms took their toll on many streets and roads throughout Columbia and surrounding cities. The expansion and contraction of asphalt, combined with the abuse taken by snow plows, was the cause of most of the potholes.

MoDOT officials said they try to repair them as soon as possible to keep travelers and their vehicles safe.

“We all have families driving on these roads just as anybody else," MoDOT Maintenance Coordinator Jim Williams said. "We’re more than happy to take care of those.”

MoDOT crews are using a temporary pothole repair mixture until weather conditions improve. Later this spring, they can use a stronger repair mixture for a longer lasting finish.
