A Portland, Mo., man is in jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond after leading a deputy on a high-speed chase.

A Callaway County deputy tried to stop a speeding SUV on State Road C at about midnight Friday morning. The driver, identified as Keith Smart, sped up, exceeding 90 miles per hour.

After speeding down two county roads outside Fulton, the 36-year-old lost control of the SUV on County Road 405. He resisted arrest and had drug paraphernalia in his possession.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license, among other traffic charges.

When they reached the Callaway County Jail, Smart threatened the deputy's life, saying he "recently had the same deputy at the end of his rifle scope and should have killed him at that time," according to a news release.

Smart also said he would blow up the courthouse and kill a judge.
