A man accused of fatally beating a California man is headed to prison.

This week in Moniteau County court, Jon Shikles withdrew his not guilty plea for second degree murder and pleaded guilty to an amended charge of voluntary manslaughter

A judge sentenced him to 10 years in the Department of Corrections.

Officers said in April 2011, they found the body of 31-year-old Travis Higgins in a California alley.

Shortly after, investigators arrested 26-year old Shikles in connection to the beating death.

Shikles was scheduled to go on trial on Monday.
