A former Jefferson City band teacher will spend 60 days in the Cole County Jail.
Kristopher Knehans was sentenced Wednesday morning in Cole County after he pleaded guilty in September to two counts of felony sexual misconduct involving a high school student. In addition to heading to jail immediately, Knehans was also sentenced to 3 years supervised probation.
The sexual contact incidents happened on two separate days in September 2011.
According to the indictment, filed in Cole County court, Knehans knowingly had sexual contact with a female student at Jefferson City High School by touching her breasts and genitals on September 10. A second count of the same charge was filed saying he knowingly had sexual contact with a female student by touching her with his genitals on Septemper 23.
Knehans was the band teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and an assistant at the high school.
The former teacher was put on administrative leave in October when he was charged with the two felony counts of sexual contact with a student.
In March of 2012, he officially resigned amidst these allegations.
Knehans eventually lost his job with Jefferson City schools and his teaching certification because of these charges.
