FULTON -- The Fulton Fire Department responded Monday night to an ADT alarm at the Fulton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center just before 10 p.m.

A press release said the cause of the fire was a thermostat control box on a water heater in the hallway closet.

Crews were advised before arriving that smoke was showing in the facility and occupants were being evacuated. The fire was not visible from the outside when the first engine arrived. After making entry into the structure crews were met with moderate smoke on wing three of the building and located the thermostat control box on a water heater in the hallway.

Firefighters were able to extinguished the fire with a portable fire extinguisher.

Fulton Fire Department investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature caused by arcing wires in the thermostat control box.

Crews removed smoke from the structure with electric exhaust fans.

A fire alarm system activated and alerted all occupants.

No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at around $10,000.
