A Columbia woman who embezzled more than $257,000 from her employer was sentenced in federal court Wednesday. She also committed tax evasion by not reporting the extra "income".

Christine Todd will spend 15 months in federal prison without parole and must pay $318,938 in restitution.

The 37-year-old was the branch credit manager for Major Brands, Inc., in Columbia. She pleaded guilty on Nov. 28, 2011, admitting that she cheated Major Brands and its customers from January 2003 to October 2006.

As credit manager, Todd processed payments received from customers, including both cash received from truck drivers and salesmen, as well as checks received in the mail. Todd admitted to stealing a portion of the cash received from the customers, totaling $257,688 over the four-year period.

She pleaded guilty to making an income tax return that falsely reported her income in 2005. Todd’s 2006 income tax return did not report $100,832 that she embezzled from Major Brand Foods in 2005.
