The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 4512 Orchard Lane, unit B at 10:39 A.M Saturday morning.

The initial call was from a neighbor who reported one of the units in the duplex was on fire.

Columbia firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:42 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the front of the structure.  Fire crews entered unit B on the west side of the building and encountered heavy fire and smoke.

They performed an aggressive fire attack and brought the situation under control in thirteen minutes.

The fire was contained to the unit it originated in.

Fire crews spent an additional hour overhauling the damage, removing burned drywall and charred insulation.

Two adults were home at the time of the fire and made it out safely.  No one was injured.

Columbia Fire Investigator Lieutenant Shawn McCollom estimates damages at $150,000.  The investigation into the cause is on-going.
