More than a dozen Columbia linemen who restored power along the east coast after Superstorm Sandy were honored with a pizza party on Monday.

The appreciation luncheon was also a chance to thank staff members that covered for the storm workers while they were gone.

Thirteen Columbia Water & Light linemen who volunteered to help with Superstorm Sandy restoration efforts left Columbia on Monday, October 29 and returned home on Wednesday, November 14.

The men replaced damaged poles, wires and electric equipment to restore electric service to thousands of First Energy customers.

Columbia lineman Andrew Smith said, “We went to Ohio and worked there for 8 days.  They had a lot trees and stuff that needed cleared up.  When we went to New Jersey, all of the trees were cut and cleared so we could go through there and rebuild the line.”

Several residents that benefited from the Columbia crew’s assistance in Cleveland, Ohio, Green Pond and Rockaway, New Jersey sent notes to Columbia Water & Light officials expressing their gratitude.
