Colorado State University President Tony Frank issued the following statement about Tuesday's death of alumnus Keli McGregor:

"This is an enormous and tragic loss for CSU and all of Colorado. Keli was a true champion in life and on the field, who exemplified what we'd want for all our graduates--an honorable and successful business leader, dedicated family man, and loyal alumnus who was unwavering in his support for CSU and our students. The McGregors are an important part of our CSU family, and our hearts are with them and his Rockies colleagues at this difficult time."

DENVER (AP) -- Police say it appears that Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor died of natural causes in a Salt Lake City hotel room.

Detective Rick Wall said two of McGregor's associates couldn't get in touch with him and that someone entered his room at the hotel in downtown Salt Lake City and found the 48-year-old McGregor unconscious Tuesday morning.

Police were called about 9 a.m. MDT and emergency workers arrived on the scene and were unable to revive him.

Wall said there were no signs of foul play. He said the investigation has been turned over to the medical examiner's office, which will determine the exact cause and time of death.

The Rockies said the 48-year-old McGregor was on a business trip with team chairman and CEO Charlie Monfort and executive vice president Greg Feasel.

Salt Lake City Police Department officials have confirmed Tuesday that Keli McGregor, 48, president of the Colorado Rockies, was found dead shortly before 9 a.m.

Paramedics and fire personnel responded to the scene at the Grand American hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. They could not revive him, according to police.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.

McGregor was named to the role of president of the Rockies on Oct. 18, 2001. He started working for the Rockies in October 1993 as senior director of operations.

McGregor joined the Rockies after four years as the associate athletic director at the University of Arkansas.

He was previously a football coach at the University of Florida for two season, 1988-1989. He earned a Master's degree in education with an athletic adminstration emphasis. McGregor co-founded the organization Reaching Out to Youth Foundation.

A two-time All-American tight end at Colorado State, McGregor was drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 1985 NFL draft. He played for Denver, Indianapolis and Seattle before retiring. Keli ranks third on CSU's single-season reception list (69) and stands fifth on the all-time reception list with 153. He was voted to the school's All-Century Team in 1992 and gained membership into the CSU's Hall of Fame in 1996.
