Are you ready for some football?
Me too. And a sandwich to go with it. Extra mayo, please.
Starting this week, Loeffler's Link will offer Pigskin Picks. Yes, I know what you're thinking ... and yes, I often do put the pig in Pigskin.
Bacon is my friend.
Here's the you-can't-lose deal. Each week, I will predict the outcome of games involving Missouri, Lincoln, the Chiefs, the Rams, the Sunday night game, and one other marquee NFL match-up. You pick the winners of these games and the final score of the Sunday night game, and also total yards for that game. The winner gets a free foot long sandwich from the Jefferson City Sub Shop, which has the best subs in town.
You will not be competing against me, because the Sub Shop would go out of business if my friend Kurt gave away a sandwich to everyone who beats me. None of us want that. You're competing against each other. The first tiebreaker will be the score of the Sunday night game; the second, total yards in the Sunday night game; the third, if needed, will be a coin flip.
Not that we foresee any problems but, just to avoid any possible sandwich shenanigans, a photo ID must be presented at the Sub Shop when claiming your prize.
The winner will be announced at Loeffler's Link on Monday afternoon. Send your picks to tloeffler@krcg.com prior to the kickoff of the first game ... this week, that would be prior to Missouri's 9:30 p.m. kickoff Friday night.
Let the games begin. Good luck.
And don't forget the extra mayo.
ARIZONA STATE 31, MISSOURI 16 --- If the Tigers have any more injuries, they'll have to suit up Truman the Tiger. WASHBURN 45, LINCOLN 7 --- The Blue Tigers get a rude welcome to the MIAA. KANSAS CITY 20, BUFFALO 10 --- It's nice to make the Bills pay, instead of vice versa. PHILADELPHIA 27, ST. LOUIS 20 --- It should be a good season for the Rams, just not a good start. PITTSBURGH 13, BALTIMORE 12 --- Instant headache. N.Y. JETS 38, DALLAS 34 (Sunday night) --- If Jerry Jones gets one more facelift, he'll turn into Joan Rivers.
