Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said he wants the Western District Court of Appeals to deny Ryan Ferguson’s latest habeas corpus petition.

Ferguson was recently featured on the CBS News program 48 Hours for his 2001 murder conviction of Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt.

Koster accused Ferguson of shopping the court system for a new trial. He said claims of perjury in the case have been heard and any further reviews are a waste of time.

On the anniversary of Heitholt’s death in October, Cole County Judge Dan Green denied Ferguson’s request for a new trial after a week-long evidentiary hearing that took place in April.

Ryan’s father, Bill Ferguson, remains optimistic about proving his son’s innocence.

Members of the Western District Missouri Court of Appeals are reviewing the Ferguson case before they decide to hear oral arguments.
