Woman hit by car while crossing the street

A pedestrian was seriously hurt when she was hit by a car Wednesday morning in Jefferson City.

Police say at 7:55 a.m., Carol Ortbals was crossing Jackson Street near East Dunklin when she was hit.

Alice Andrews was driving a mini van making a left turn onto Jackson when she hit Ortbals.

Ortbals was first taken to a Jefferson City hospital, and later was life flighted to University Hospital in Columbia.

Jefferson City Police are investigating the accident.
