COLUMBIA -- Authorities said alcohol was a factor in a 4-car pile-up in mid Missouri Tuesday night.
Columbia police said a man caused the four-car chain reaction pile-up in Columbia after failing to stop at a traffic light just before 6 p.m. Tuesday on westbound Route B, east of Highway 63.
The driver, 36-year-old Richard Jones, crashed into the back of another vehicle, which was stopped in a line of cars at the westbound traffic signal. That set off the chain reaction.
The other drivers involved were 45-year-old Tommy Collum of Camdenton, and his passenger, 25-year-old Wesley Edwards of Columbia. Also involved were 17-year-old Kelly Cobb, and 31-year-old Amanda Tilford, both from Columbia.
The Columbia Police Department said Jones sustained minor injuries while Collum had moderate injuries, and Edwards suffered serious injuries. All three were taken to University Hospital. Cobb and Tilford were not injuried.
