The woman and her 9-year-old son were sitting in their vehicle when the man demanded a ride

A woman and her 9-year-old son are safe after a man with a handgun got into their vehicle and demanded a ride to an undisclosed location.

COLUMBIA, MO. -- A woman and her 9-year-old son are safe after a man with a handgun got into their vehicle and demanded a ride to an undisclosed location.

The man approached while the woman and her child were sitting in their vehicle at 812 Keene St. at about noon Tuesday.. After he got into the car, the woman got out and pushed the panic button on her key fob, causing the man to exit the car and run. He did not take any money or property.
 
Authorities, assisted by a K-9 unit, were unable to track the man. He is described as a black male in his late teens to early twenties, approximately 5'5" with a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark clothes, armed with a handgun.
