There is just one more week to go in our high school football regular season. Week number 9 or the second week of district play featured several dominating performances by teams that will likely win district championships.

The Blair Oaks Falcons used a strong running game to blowout the Hallsville Indians 46-7. Blair Oaks improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in district play. Only Southern Boone stands in the way of a 9th straight district title. Those Southern Boone Eagles were on the short end of a wild shootout in Mokane. The South Callaway Bulldogs held

on to beat Southern Boone 42-36. It looks like South Callaway will likely make back to back trips to the state playoffs. The Bulldogs made it for the first time in school history last season. They'll host Hallsville this Friday night.

There were two big wins in the local Class 6 district by the Jefferson City Jays and Hickman Kewpies, who will meet this Friday night in Columbia. The Jays rolled past Fort Zumwalt West 55-7. J.C. is now 7-2 on the season, 2-0 in district play. Hickman had no trouble beating the Troy Trojans 53-13.

The Kewps are 1-1 in districts and will likely need to beat the rival Jays to make the playoffs. The Rock Bridge Bruins came up with a very good road win, beating Blue Springs South 41-34. While South may be down this year, it was still a good victory for the Bridge. It won't be easy for another Rock Bridge road win this week as the Bruins travel to Blue Springs.

The Helias Crusaders beat up on the Kirksville Tigers Saturday night. Homecoming celebrations started early. Helias led 51-0 at the half, easing on to the 64-0 final. Second ranked Helias in Class 4 is 9-0 and has already earned a spot in the playoffs. The Crusaders will play at Hannibal for a district championship on Friday night. Both teams are 2-0 in district play. The Pirates are 8-1 on the season.

Big wins for Versailles and Osage will set up a district championship game this Thursday night. The Tigers from Versailles eliminated California from playoff contention with a 42-21 win at the home of the Pintos.   School of the Osage spoiled a big 50th anniversary of football celebration at Eldon with a 37-7 Indians win. Versailles and Osage are both in the playoffs. The winner of Thursday’s head to head matchup will claim the district crown and a home game to open the post-season.

The Rolla Bulldogs, ranked number 5 in the Class 5 state poll last week improved to 9-0 with a 14-0 win over Waynesville. This sets up a showdown at Camdenton this Friday night. The Lakers will host Rolla. The visiting Bulldogs are already in the playoffs and can pick up the district title with a win over the Lakers.

The Centralia Panthers keep rolling on. The state's number one ranked team in Class 2 is still unbeaten at 9-0. Centralia blanked Montgomery County 44-0. The Panthers have clinched the district title and will finish out the regular season at Hermann on Thursday night this week.

One other mid-Missouri team has yet to lose. The Tipton Cardinals beat Sweet Springs 28-6 in week two of districts. The Cardinals are 9-0 and will finish up with a home game against Northwest. The Cardinals should win yet another district title.

As mentioned, several of our local teams will play a night early in this final week of the regular season. We'll have expanded coverage on Thursday night during the 10pm sports, along with our normal Football Friday Night show.

Enjoy week number ten and the playoffs to follow!
