A photo database can help owners positively identify stolen items recovered by authorities
Theft. Robbery. Burglary.
You never imagine it could happen to you. But if it does, how might you get your things back?
Keeping a record of your property is a good start.
When a theft occurs, the owner must share as many details about the stolen objects as possible with police. However, thorough descriptions can be difficult to provide.
Creating a photo database, coupled with other identifying information like serial numbers, help both the police and your insurance company.
Electronics, antiques, jewelry, art and even pets should be included. If your pet is microchipped, be sure the chipping company has up-to-date information, while serialized items or those with owner-applied numbers can also be entered into the National Crime Information Center Database.
Keep a copy of your property database in a safe place. You might even give a copy to a close friend or family member.
For residents of Osage Beach, the police department has forms available for documenting property. If you can't stop by to pick up the forms, you can email Sergeant Arlyne Page at apage@osagebeach.org for an electronic copy.
