As you may know, the Jefferson City Fire Department celebrated 100 years of public service yesterday, and today they're moving forward without skipping a beat.

Over off Heisinger road in Jefferson City, the fire department held demonstrations of some of their fire dousing techniques, as well as provided people with information on the history of the fire department.

Some of the activities that were set up include a mock car extracation and a car fire prop, to show people how firefighters deal with those situations.

Bbut their real reason for hosting the event was to look toward the future.

"Today we celebrate the next century of full time service.” said Captain Tim Young with the Jefferson City Fire Department. “We've just completed a century of full time service, so today's activities represent the future of what the fire department will do for the citizens of Jefferson City."

This event was also part of fire prevention week, which is an initiative by the fire department to educated people on the ways fires can start in their homes, and ways in which they implement safe fire procedure.
