Even with the little bit of rain we've gotten in the past week, conditions are still very dry throughout Mid-Missouri.

In Cole County, residents have been having a tough time with the drought conditions recently.

In the last week, many have found there wells almost completely dry, which means they have to have spend money to dig a deeper, separate drill.

Chad Tuinstra is one of those people.

I think it's been going on for a little while, I just haven't noticed it yet. Until it's gotten to that point where it's so bad.” said Tuinstra. “My biggest concern is that one day we're going to turn on the faucet and not have anything in the house, so we're really trying to conserve what we can right now"

The people drilling those wells say that a big part of it has to do with demand for water going up.

"A lot of these wells were drilled in the 60's, 70's, early 80s. At that time, a lot of these wells were producing [in the] 30 gallon range, 20-30 gallon a minute range.” said Greg Bonnot, owner of B&H Drilling .”Seems like the well would last forever, but conditions [today] are demanding more water, and we're just having to take it deeper to get the supply that everybody needs."

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has released a study that shows the ground-water aquifers in Mid-Missouri have been steadily declining throughout the years.
