(AP) -- ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A suspect is hospitalized and expected to recover after being shot during a struggle with St. Louis police.

The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon. Police say the man ran away from a car stopped by an officer because it matched the description of one in which someone was reportedly impersonating an officer.

Police say the driver and an officer got into a struggle and the officer's gun apparently fired accidentally, striking the man in the upper body. The suspect is in serious but stable condition. His name has not been released.

The 27-year-old officer had minor injuries from the struggle. Police say two handguns were recovered at the scene.
