The season's dry conditions didn't help firefighters Friday afternoon in Miller County.

Sheriff Bill Abbott said a discarded cigarette sparked a natural cover fire off Highway 54 near the Highway 52 junction in the Eldon area.

It took crews about an hour to get the 1-2 acre fire under control. No buildings were damaged, but Sheriff Abbott says the fire got as close as 50 feet to one house.

The Sheriff reminds residents Miller County is under a burn-ban as the hot and dry weather makes for dangerous conditions.
