The heat is on in mid-Missouri

Wednesday is the beginning of an extended heat wave across the state of Missouri. During this time period, near record-high temperatures are expected through the end of the week and possibly into the weekend. The seasonal average during this time period is around 86 degrees, while temperatures will be much warmer in this time period.
The average first 100 degree day occurs in July. The warmest day on record for the month of June is 104 degrees, which was set on June 29th, 1901.
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect from noon Wednesday to 7 p.m. Saturday for eastern Kansas into northwest and central Missouri. Dangerous levels of heat will occur each afternoon from Thursday through Saturday. Heat index values are expected to be 105 during this time period. Impacts are heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke are a real threat.
