Woman arrested for February fatal crash

A Jefferson city woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter from a February crash in Montgomery County.

The felony charge was filed this week against Kelli Smith.

Court records indicate the 22 year old was intoxicated when she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 70 around 3:30 a.m. on February 25th.

Police say Smith caused a crash involving two cars and a tractor trailer.

35-year-old Thomas Sullivan, a driver of one of the cars she hit head-on, was killed from the crash.

Smith was in the hospital in serious condition after the accident.

Kelli Smith is in custody in Cole County awaiting transfer to Montgomery County jail.

A warrant was issued in Montgomery County on Monday for Kelli Smith, from Jefferson City.

Smith is possibly facing a charge of Involuntary manslaughter in Montgomery County for driving while intoxicated which resulted in the death of a non-passenger last February.

Smith had driven the wrong direction on Interstate 70 in Montgomery County which led to a collision of two vehicles and a tractor trailer. The defendant, Smith, was flown to University Hospital in serious condition following the incident.

Charges pending until arrival in Montgomery County.
