Third possible case of E-coli in Cole County

The cole county health department says there is a third suspected case of shiga toxin, which like e-coli can cause serious illness.
Last week, there were two reported cases and one turned out to be E-coli.
Both victims were hospitalized.
The two cases reported last week
are
related.
A grandmother from Centertown and her granddaughter were hospitalized.
It turns out the little girl has E-coli.
We spoke to the grandmother Monday, she says they are both doing fine, but her granddaughter is still in the hospital.
Health officials say those two cases resulted from not washing hands properly.
A third possible case is still under investigation, but we're told it could be linked to the other two.
Rachael Hahn, with the Cole County Health Department said, "There is no evidence that the cases are connected by food or water at this point, the two cases that we're looking at that might be connected would be person to person transmission".
E-coli is one of the organisms that produces Shiga toxin.
There's no word on when results from the state health department will be back on this third case.
