Wednesday night, a new proposed apartment development in Columbia became one step closer to reality.

It would be built at the corner of Highway 63 and Stadium Boulevard.

Wednesday, nearby neighbors held a special meeting to talk about how the new complex could impact the neighborhood.

Only about 20 people showed up to ask about the new 648 bed student housing project.

The Asset Plus Corporation out of Houston, Texas is behind the project.

They're known for operating luxury student housing in other college towns like College Station, Texas.

At the meeting they touted the solid construction, and progressive concepts like, video game rooms, fire pit patios, and sand volleyball courts.

Traffic congestion seemed to be the main concern but residents walked away feeling satisfied with their answers.

Gregg Suhler said, "Traffic will probably work out alright, student traffic seems to be more distributed".

Bill Tillotson told us, “This is a lovely neighborhood, a lot of great people here, this project seems to fit and the neighborhood seems to be on board with it".

Asset Plus said to help cut down on traffic, they will have their own buses going back and forth from campus.

They were also quick to let residents know they'll use as much local labor as possible.

In the end the, the development will have 18 to 20 full and part-time employees.
