NEW BLOOMFIELD -- Friday was a big day for teachers in New Bloomfield.

Checks were presented to teachers who received grants through the newly formed New Bloomfield Education Foundation.

The elementary had an assembly to honor their teachers and surprise them with their checks.

The foundation was formed last summer and has already taken in thousands of dollars from donors.

School officials said the fact that they are already providing funds to the school is wonderful.

“We've seen so many efforts from the community to become part of our school and mesh the two together,” New Bloomfield Elementary principal Julie Gerloff said. “Today was just kind of a final moment of hip-hip-hooray, that we are coming together as a community and they're supporting what we're trying to do here at New Bloomfield which is educate and lead life long learners."

Gerloff said the money given out to the teachers today will go toward a portable listening center for kindergartners, a document camera for the fourth grade and new music for the winter and spring music programs.

Some teachers at New Bloomfield High School were also awarded grants.
