COLUMBIA, MO. -- A fast moving storm system rolled through on Monday morning and produced enough snow to cause dangerous driving conditions and the closing of area schools.
Columbia plow truck drivers have been on the job since 2:30 a.m.
A full crew of 22 Columbia snow plows finished most of their city’s priority streets by late this afternoon.
Columbia plow truck drivers will continue to work overnight to make sure all of the roads are safe and passable without any slick spots for the morning commute.
Columbia Public Works spokeswoman Jill Stedem said, “They are maintaining the priority roads at this time. We have 170 miles of priority roads. Those are our first priority and second priority which are the main thoroughfares as well as the roads with schools and hospitals on them.”
The Columbia Fire Department responded to 7 car crashes on Monday because of snowy weather conditions.
There were no serious injuries.
