Here are some of the events going on around Mid-Missouri Monday for Martin Luther King Day.
There will be a memorial service at the MLK Memorial Gardens in Columbia at 11 a.m.
There’s also a poor people’s breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Then at 6 p.m. there will be a candlelight march from Douglass High School to another memorial celebration at St. Paul AME.
St. James United Methodist Church in Fulton is holding their annual celebration at 5:30 p.m.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Joanne Bland, who participated in “Bloody Sunday” and other protest marches as a young girl, will share her experiences at 6 p.m. at William Woods University, in a talk called, “Witness of history in the struggle for civil rights.”
St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City is holding its eighth annual event to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. at 2 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at St. Mary’s Health Center.
The community is invited to all these events.
Once again we wanted to remind everyone that city offices around the area are closed Monday to observe the holiday.
