Update: Jan 12th at 8:15 a.m.:
Falling and blowing snow made Thursday morning's commute slow than normal. Crews have worked multiple accidents around Mid-Missouri, most of which have been non-injury accidents like slide offs and fender benders.
MoDOT crews continue to try and clear roads this morning, but according to their Road Conditions map, many roads are still fully or partially covered with snow.
More than 80 organizations school districts closed for Thursday, including the area's largest districts Columbia and Jefferson City Schools. You can get all the latest school closings here.
In addition to dealing with snow, temperatures are very cold. A high in the low 20's is expected and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 PM. Periods of snow showers and flurries are expected throughout the day, along with blustery conditions. Snow totals are expected between 1" and 2".
Original Story:
Tonight mid-Missouri braces for only the second snowfall of this Winter season so far. The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory that covers most of the state of Missouri and all of the KRCG viewing area. A strong cold front has pushed through the area with snow coming in behind the system.
Roads are expected to become slick overnight as 1 to 3 inches of snow is forecasted to fall across the region. The heaviest snow is expected between midnight and 4 in the morning.
Wind overnight may gust to near 40 miles per hour, causing some blowing and drifting snow. Snow will continue through Thursday afternoon, though it will be lighter as the day progresses. Some areas may see as much as 4 inches of snow.
The system, which will continue to bring gusty winds throughout Thursday, will finally pull out of the area sometime Thursday night. Stay tuned to KRCG 13 and connectmidmissouri.com for the latest information and updates on the incoming storm.
