Former Stover mayor sentenced

The former mayor of Stover was sentenced Thursday in federal court.
Scott Beckmann, 42, was sentenced by a U.S. District Judge to 10 years of probation, five months of home confinement, 30 days in a half-way house and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
The former mayor is not allowed to work for the state of Missouri or any political subdivision of the state, including the city of Stover.
Beckmann resigned as mayor of Stover Thursday morning.
In March Beckmann was convicted on charges related to violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act and of making a false statement to a federal agent.
Richard Sparks, 55, the superintendent of the city’s public works department was also sentenced.
He was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to making a false statement.
