Man in jail after high speed chase

A Columbia man is in jail after he lead police on a high speed chase.

Around 4:30 Wednesday morning, a Boone County Deputy located a vehicle and a suspect with an outstanding warrant in the area of the 2700 block of Paris Road.

The Deputy made contact with the occupant, who was identified as 36-year-old Robert E. Jennings.

When the Deputy advised Jennings of the outstanding warrant for his arrest; Jennings jumped into his vehicle and fled the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

After a short vehicle pursuit, Jennings stopped the car in the area of Vandiver Drive near Highway 63.

Jennings was taken into custody without further incident.

Jennings was arrested on suspicion of possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, resisting arrest, driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving and multiple other traffic offenses.

The outstanding warrant for Jennings was a failure to appear warrant for the original charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
