State offices will be open the day after Thanksgiving for the second year in a row. Does it really save the state more money for people to work that day?
Does working the day after Thanksgiving save the state money? That's the question many of our viewers and Facebook fans wanted us to ask the Governor's office, after Gov. Nixon decided for the second straight year not to sign the proclamation declaring it a holiday.
For several years, Missouri's Governors signed executive orders giving state employees the day after Thanksgiving off. Some of those state employees even told KRCG that in the 1990s they were told it was to save money.
But last year, for the first time in two decades, Gov. Jay Nixon did not sign the proclamation, saying it saved the state more in overtime costs to keep state offices open.
Tonight at 10, KRCG talks to officials in Gov. Nixon's office to find out just how much is saved.
