FULTON, MO. -- The Missouri State Health Department has notified Westminster College that one of its students has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis.

The Fulton college says the student has been isolated from unprotected contact with others while undergoing treatment for the disease.

The diagnosis was the result of routine tuberculosis screening at the college, whose officials are working with the student to identify people who have had close, prolonged, regular contact with the student.

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by an infection transmitted through the air by a person with active TB. Symptoms include a bad cough that lasts more than three weeks, night sweats and coughing up blood.
