COLUMBIA, MO. -- Columbia police are cracking down on drunk drivers this week.

Between now and Sunday, extra officers will be looking for impaired drivers and parents who are not properly securing their children in car seats.

Officers will also have at least one sobriety checkpoint within Columbia’s city limits over the next few days.

Traffic unit supervisor Sgt. Curtis Perkins said, “We try to make sure that the wait is not unreasonable for people coming through the checkpoint.  If it becomes such, we will have the cars go through it and start over after the traffic has passed.  We want you to be patient with us as we try to keep the time minimal.”

This week’s crackdown on drunk driving in Columbia is made possible through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transporation’s “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” campaign.
