FAYETTE, MO -- There's a boil advisory in effect for residents in Fayette. A water main break at Railroad and Cottonwood dropped water pressure in some areas below the standards required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Some areas of the city even have little to no water at all.
Until further notice Fayette residents are asked to do the following with their water:
-Boil water vigorously for three minutes before use. Use only water that has been boiled for drinking, diluting fruit juices, all other food preparation and brushing teeth.
-Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled.
-Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
-Continue boiling all water that is to be used for cooking and drinking until notified that the boil advisory has been lifted.
*Water used for bathing does not need to be boiled.
Anyone with questions about the boil advisory can call City Hall at (660) 248-5246, the Utility Office at (660) 248-2214, or the Water Plant at (660) 248-2670.
In a news release, the city apologized for any inconvenience and said crews are working to repair the broken line.
