The second Central Missouri Honor Flight of 2011 is underway and the public is encouraged to help welcome the veterans home.

Organizers said the public should arrive Tuesday night at 11:30 to the Marriott Courtyard hotel on Lemone Industrial Drive in Columbia. Two buses full of veterans should arrive around midnight.

This is the 15th honor flight for the local chapter, in which WWII veterans fly to Washington D.C. to see their memorials. More than 770 veterans have participated so far with many more to come.

There will be another flight in June, followed by a summer break during the hot months in Washington D.C., and flights will resume in the Fall.

"Welcome Home" attendees are encouraged to bring posters and American flags to greet the veterans.
