Mike Fusselman, Randolph County Prosecutor, confirmed investigators met today to discuss the case of the dead newborn baby.

He said they are still investigating and looking for leads. He said investigators are awaiting the outcome of records requests and lab tests before making any determinations.

Original Story:

Officials investigating the death of a newborn abandoned in a Randolph County pond met Monday to discuss the case.

The County Sheriff, local police, county prosecutor and coroner were among those present at the meeting.

Cassidy King has already been charged with abandonment of a corpse, and the coroner said the situation could change if they determine the baby was born alive.

A mandatory child death review is required after deaths of children one-year and younger.

On Mother’s Day, family members of King pulled a duffle bag with the infant and a cement block inside out of shallow water of a pond near Higbee.

Investigators said King admitted to having the baby at her home in Moberly several weeks ago. Friends said they had no idea King was pregnant, but that she wore baggy clothes a lot.
