COLUMBIA, MO. -- It began Friday and continues through Sunday.

5,319 graduates are celebrating the end of their academic journeys during spring commencement exercises at Mizzou.

Graduates from the University of Missouri-Columbia Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business were the first to receive their diplomas at The Hearnes Center.

Group President of Caterpillar, Inc. Edward Rapp was the commencement speaker.

The Mizzou graduates will continue their education, try to find a job or begin their new career.

MU Graduate Sarah Kraus said, “I already have a job that I start in June.  I will be working for the Macy’s Company in Chicago.  I’m really excited to move there.  I’ll be moving there in June.”

MU Graduate Ben Loomstein attached some bright, flashing lights to his graduate cap.  Loomstein said, “I want my family to see me, so I got a great hat going on here.  Some people decorate with their fraternities.  Some people decorate with their states.  I just thought I would go with the lights.”

Other commencement speakers on the Mizzou campus this weekend include Governor Jay Nixon, Senator Claire McCaskill, Geneticist Ian Wilmut who is known for cloning sheep, and rock star Sheryl Crow.

Crow and Wilmut were scheduled to speak Saturday at 8:30 a.m. during the Honors Ceremony in the Francis Quadrangle.

That ceremony has been moved to Mizzou Arena because of threatening weather.
