Three volunteers from the Jefferson City area are headed to tornado-ravaged Alabama.

The volunteers are part of the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. All of them are headed to Birmingham, Ala. for Red Cross relief efforts.

According to the Red Cross, the deployments will be at least two weeks long.

The three volunteers each have different functions in the relief efforts. One will be doing damage assessments in the area, while another is doing case management and the third is handling bulk distributions. Several volunteers from Mid-Missouri are currently deployed. Others are currently working in Poplar Bluff, St. Louis and North Carolina. Other chapter volunteers are on standby for possible deployment as well.
