COLUMBIA, MO. -- Cabin fever...

It set in a while ago for most.

So when we finally got some much needed sunshine and a warmer day Columbia residents took full advantage of the suns rays.

"I really enjoy the fact that I can be out here and not wear a coat and be pretty comfortable," musician Tyler Jolly said.

Jolly played his guitar on a bench along Broadway in downtown Columbia for whoever wanted to listen.

"People are definitely more out and about in general. You can see downtown is thriving.  It’s filled with people that I think are all pretty relieved that all this snow is finally over for the time being anyway," Jolly said.

Another place people flocked to was Stephens Lake Park.

Roger Hunt used a metal detector to scan the snow at the park hoping find some lost treasures.

"It’s a good hobby,” Hunt said.  “It gets you outside and you're not just sitting there starring out the window thinking you’re trapped. It gives you something to do, but it will be easier once the snow melts."

Hunt said many times people are in a hurry to get in and out of the cold and they often drop things out of their pockets.

He said this is especially true when they go sledding.

"I found one set of car keys,” Hunt said.  “I guess that guy had a tough way of getting home."

Hunts also found silver rings and a cell phone so far this winter.

The best places Hunt said to use a metal detector might surprise you.

"For finding really valuable stuff it's the women's restroom,” Hunt said. “They wash their hands with cold water and soap and then they come out and rings slide off so you look outside the women's restroom and around that area. Another place is a concession stand, it’s a good spot for finding change.”

While the snow will still be around for a few more days, scenes of melting snowmen will soon become a distant memory.

"Just being able to be out in the sunshine is enough for me," Jolly said.

Warmer days ahead will give Mid Missourians a much needed break that should make it easier to shake any lingering cabin fever.

How do you keep cabin fever away?
