COLUMBIA, MO -- A teenager is in the Cooper County jail Tuesday night after leading a Highway Patrol trooper on a high-speed chase.

It began in Concordia with a report of a stolen car. The Highway Patrol then responded to a careless driver.

Corporal Ward with Troop F told KRCG he initiated the traffic stop with the 17-year-old driver, but the teen didn't pull over. Instead, he lead troopers, deputies, and police on a chase along I-70 from Cooper County into Boone County.

Ward said speeds were in excess of 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended when the teen crashed into a median at the 129 mile marker on I-70 near the US 63 connector.

Ward said the 17 year-old was not injured in the crash.

"It was a minor accident. He just tore he car up a little bit," Ward said of the crash scene.

While the teen wasn't injured, it did force a lane closure on US 63 for about a half hour.

Law enforcement officials took the teen into custody without incident. Ward expects him to face multiple charges, including felony resisting arrest, vehicle tampering, which is a felony, and several traffic violations.
