The snow has caused a lot problems this week for almost everyone, post offices, schools, grocery stores, and even trash services are struggling with the messy conditions outside.

Allied Waste wasn't able to pick up residential trash on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Thursday and Friday weren't much better only 20% percent got trash pick-up.

KRCG's Fact Finder Team found the people who got skipped will have to wait til next week to get their trash picked up.

After the blizzard kept trash trucks idle for two days, Allied Waste workers hit the streets again Thursday and Friday trying to pick up as much trash as possible.

"In Jefferson City we picked up probably 20% of the customers that we would normally pick up. Very few people can get their trash to the road yet, because there's not a place to put the trash." Allied Waste General Manager Rick Graham said.

Graham said those who didn't see a garbage truck come down their street will have to wait until their next regular trash day.

"This is not going to be a one week, two week deal it's going to take a while for this snow leave. Once it does we will clean up all the trash,” Graham said. “That's our job and we'll take care of our customers."

Allied Waste said picking up trash in these type of weather conditions can be dangerous for their workers and also their customers.

"If we meet someone on a narrow one lane road we can't back up and they can't back up. We don't want to hurt anybody,” Graham said. “We have to look at the safety aspect of the company and the public also. I think we're making the right decision."

Graham told KRCG he wants to remind all residents to clear the snow away from blocking their dumpsters so they can pick up your trash,

"If the carts are buried in snow or if a container is blocked by snow we are going to leave it. We are not going to get somebody hurt trying to dig out the cart or anything due to snow,” Graham said. “We just can't do that. We would never get done if we did that. The customers have to get carts out of the snow where we can pick them up. The same goes with commercial dumpsters, you got to get it free of snow so we can back up to it and pick it up."

In Columbia, trash and recycling pick-up started back up Friday. Pick-ups normally scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be picked up next week.

KRCG told you about area disruptions in mail delivery, but trash pick-up has also been on and off this week.

In Jefferson City, trash pick up was canceled Tuesday and Wednesday. In Columbia, trash pick-up was canceled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In Jefferson City, Allied Waste resumed trash pick-up Thursday for residents who live in city limits. But unlike in prior cases, pick-ups were not pushed back one or two days; Tuesday and Wednesday pick ups will be taken care of next week. Trash pick-up for citizens who live outside Jefferson City limits will resume Monday.

In Columbia, trash and recycling pick-up started back up Friday. Pick-ups normally scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be picked up next week. Crews are asking residents if you don't have to have your trash picked up Friday, keep it until next week. Crews also say road conditions and snow piles lining the streets will cause them to miss some houses.
