WEST PLAINS, MO. (AP) -- A southeast Missouri man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2003 shooting of his father, a well-known auto mechanic in Poplar Bluff.

The trial that ended Thursday was the third for 31-year-old Shawn Curtis Hanna, also of Poplar Bluff, after two others ended with hung juries. The latest trial was held in Howell County on a change of venue.

Fifty-six-year-old Ralph Hanna was shot outside his home in November 2003 while returning from hunting. Shawn Carter claimed his father was shot accidentally by an unknown hunter.

But Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says prosecutors showed Hanna and his mother conspired to kill Ralph Hanna to keep him from learning about their large debts. Denise Hanna was convicted earlier of second-degree murder.

Shawn Hanna faces a maximum of life without parole. The sentencing set for Feb. 25.
