JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- State health and agriculture officials have halted production and distribution of a Missouri-made cheese after traces of bacteria were found in cheese sold in California.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture says it learned Thursday of the results of tests done in California on cheese made by Morningland Dairy, in the south-central town of Mountain View.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture informed Missouri officials that tests on Morningland Dairy cheese contained traces of Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.

The samples were seized in California June 30.

The halt to production and distribution is temporary while Missouri and federal officials gather information about distribution of the cheese.

Missouri officials say Morningland Dairy is cooperating. The dairy sells several types of raw cows' milk and raw goats' milk cheeses across the United States.

William Wolfe, 29, pleaded guilty in April to two counts of armed robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced in Kansas City Thursday to 30 years in federal prison and was ordered to pay more than $42,000 in restitution.

Wolfe admitted to robbing banks in Winigan and Holden in July of last year. He and accomplice Michael Leak, 20, of Columbia, were captured after a shootout with police officers.

Leak pleaded guilty to his role in the crime in July.
