COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- A state representative is working to make sure Missouri veterans can share their war experiences with generations to come.

Kansas City Democrat Jason Kander was among lawmakers who helped scrap money from the upcoming state budget that would have supported Missouri Veterans Stories, a project that records Missouri veterans talking about their war experiences.

Now Kander and several other representatives are teaming up with the University of Missouri to re-create the effort in a way that benefits students and saves taxpayer dollars.

The goal is to get University of Missouri journalism students to record and archive interviews with veterans as a way to give the students critical experience, while keeping the cost to taxpayers down.
