OZARK, Mo. (AP) -- A Christian County prosecutor gave five men convicted of vandalism a choice between having felony convictions on their records or signing up for the military.

The five men pleaded guilty Monday to charges arising from a six-month vandalism spree in Ozark and Nixa counties. They had faced a total of 49 misdemeanors and felonies for causing an estimated $12,600 in damage.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that four of the five men chose the felony convictions. They must serve 10 days in jail, pay restitution, complete community service and serve five years of probation.

The fifth man pleaded guilty to four misdemeanors and will serve at least three years in the military. He also must serve 10 days in jail, pay restitution, do community service and serve two years of probation.
