JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Backers of proposed constitutional amendments seeking to restrict the use of eminent domain are unlikely to submit their ballot measures.

Ron Calzone is the chairman for Missouri Citizens for Property Rights. He said Friday that legal wrangling over ballot summaries for the measures took too long. Calzone says the effort to get the measure on the November ballot is effectively over.

Eminent domain critics submitted their proposed ballot measure just after the November 2008 election. Legal challenges tied it up in the courts until March 19, when the state Supreme Court declined to consider an appeal.

Petition signatures must be submitted to the secretary of state by May 2.
