FULTON -- The Jane Doe whose body was found in a shallow grave near Mokane a month ago has been identified.

Investigators say it's the remains of Melissa Corn, 35, of Auxvasse. Her husband, David Corn, 44, has been arrested and is in jail.

Corn will appear before a judge Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The big break in the case came after medical examiners learned that the Jane Doe had not been able to walk, according to Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane.

Crane made that information public and almost immediately received a phone call from a Columbia wheelchair dealer. That produced a name and a link to Melissa's family in St. Charles.

"Our office ran with that," said Crane. "Found out the day the day before that Warren County had entered Mrs Corn as a missing person. It was reported by her family to the Warren County Sheriff's Department. Since that time, we've been working with them to get paternity testing done."

Once the DNA work was finished, the spotlight turned to Auxvasse and David Corn.

The sheriff refuses to disclose anything of significance about that investigation.
