HOLTS SUMMIT -- A fire destroyed the Holts Summit home of a Callaway County deputy early Tuesday.

Firefighters responded at about 2 a.m. to Aaron Hazelton's home, located in the 200 block of West Simons, and saw fire coming from the roof.

After determining everyone was out of the house, firefighters tried to contain the flames but encountered heavy fire conditions in the attic area.

First responders were forced to retreat until fire conditions improved so firefighters could re-enter the structure.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Investigator, along with members from the Holts Summit Fire District, conducted the fire investigation and determined the fire began in the attic area.

The investigators also categorized the fire as accidental.

The New Bloomfield Fire District helped Holts Summit firefighters.

No injuries were reported. The home is considered a total loss.

Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said he would let us know if there are any charities or donations set up to assist Hazelton.

Hazelton reached out on the KRCG 13 Facebook page to thank the community for the outpouring of support he has received.

Aaron Hazelton told KRCG 13 that anyone wishing to make monetary donations can do so at any Central Bank.

He also said that those wishing to donate clothing in his size (large shirts, 34/34 pants), can drop them off at the Holts Summit Police Department.

Investigators still do not know what caused the fire.
