It's just on the eve of Thanksgiving weekend and while you may be ready to sit down with family and friends for a grand Thanksgiving feast, many others do not have that same luxury.

That's why the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri held their holiday food drive in several places throughout mid-Missouri Tuesday.

Officials with the food bank say the demand is fairly high in the area this time of year.

"It's continued to increase over the last several years.” said Rachel Ellersieck, the Communications Coordinator for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. ”Last year, we had over 200 new client in Boone County pantry every single month, so that's 200 people that had never been to our pantry before were coming, and we've seen about a 63% increase in the number of clients going to pantries since 2008."

They held the food drive in several places throughout Columbia, Jefferson City and Fulton until 6 p.m., but they say they always welcome donations given directly at their food bank or on their website.
