(AP) -- HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) -- A 21-year-old St. Louis County man is charged with stealing, kidnapping and child endangerment for allegedly taking a Jeep left running at a gas station, apparently not knowing there was a toddler in it.

Charges were filed Thursday against Ryan Beckler of Fenton. He is jailed without bail.

Police say a 25-year-old woman left her 19-month-old daughter inside a Jeep Cherokee at a Phillips 66 station near Imperial Wednesday evening. When she came out, the Jeep was gone.

Moments later, a man called police to say a stranger told him he found a child in the middle of a road. The man left the girl in her child seat, then left. The child was not hurt.

A Jefferson County deputy spotted the stolen Jeep later Wednesday and arrested the suspect.
